"Better Is One Day In Your Courts"
Police Close Roads Until Animals Corralled
Note: This story happened several years ago, but it's worth repeating...
PIKESVILLE, Md. - A herd of buffalo somehow got loose and wandered around an upscale neighborhood, disrupting traffic and alarming homeowners before officers managed to corral them in a tennis court.
More than a dozen police cars and a police helicopter were used to herd the roughly 10 beasts, authorities said.
The officers used lounge chairs beside the tennis court as shields and formed a human chain to corral the wayward buffalo. One buffalo was seen leaping over one of the tennis nets in an effort to evade capture.
The animals came from a farm in Stevenson, nearly three miles away, Vinson said. They were returned to the farm later in the day.
Police shut down several major traffic arteries, including a section of the Baltimore Beltway, while they tried to anticipate which way the buffalo would roam.

Psalm 84:10 (NIV)
10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
Psalm 100 (NIV)
His Steadfast Love Endures Forever
A Psalm for giving thanks.
1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his ;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about worship?
As soon as I saw the news story about the buffalo on the tennis courts, I wondered if perhaps these were Christian bison? Maybe these buffalo understood a truth that we as believers often seem to forget - "better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere!" (Psalm 84:10)
Remember the line from that old camp fire song, "Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam"?
When we ignore Christ's Lordship in our lives and limit our worship to a Sunday morning service, our song during the week is "Oh I feel at home where the worldly roam".
Today's psalm reminds us that God is the only One worthy of our worship! We are His "people, the sheep (not the buffalo) of His pasture." The Lord Jesus is The Shepherd Who can be depended on to lead us and provide for us!
Do you and I "go into His courts with praise" or do we just sort of roam during the week and then find ourselves feeling out of place when we attempt to worship God in His "courts" on Sunday mornings?
When we submit to Christ as Lord, we'll remember His "love and faithfulness". We'll find ourselves feeling right at home, as we enter His "courts" with praise every day!
- Go back to today's scripture and read it aloud as a prayer to God. Then spend a couple of minutes in silent meditation in His "courts". Listen....
- Make a commitment to "enter His courts" with praise every day. The Father wants to hear your requests, but let His Spirit teach you how to worship Him with joy and thanksgiving many times a day.
- Write down in journal what you learn through this spiritual discipline during the next couple of weeks.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
Go play tennis with a friend. After you tell him or her the buffalo story, stand on one of the courts and tell your friend what you learned in today's DAILYBIDE.
